How Many Genders are There?

You may have stumbled upon this question because you aren't familiar with the terminology and phrases used to express your gender identity. You must have heard different gender identities shown from media channels or your friend circle. It's normal for some people to feel uncomfortable or confused about all the genders, gender identities, and gender roles. Many psychologists are making people aware of LGBTQIA issues. You could also be exploring your gender identity and seeking out the right words to help others.
It's almost 2022 and many terms related to gender are being more widely accepted in society. These concepts and terms will continue evolving for the next 10 years. It is best to keep informed by reaching out to someone with more knowledge about these terms and topics. It is good asking others to identify their preferences and how they would like to be addressed.
You must be wondering where to begin: What does gender identity mean? What is biological sex and what does it mean? How does gender identity relate to sexuality? Let us see a brief of some common misconceptions surrounding gender identity.

There is a difference between gender and sex

Gender
Gender is the way a person identifies internally and externally. To express their gender identity, people may choose to dress, appear, or act in a way that is appropriate for them.
According to the World Health Organization gender refers to a social construct that people describe as feminine or masculine. Western culture associates femininity with women, while masculinity is associated with men. However, this social construction can vary from one culture to another.
Gender is not always categorized as "man" or "woman".
Sex
The biological factors that determine a person's sexual preferences include their reproductive organs, genes, hormones, and gender. Sex, like gender, is not binary. Although a person may be born with the same genes as a male or female, their reproductive organs, genitals, or both might look very different.
This is known as differences in sex development. Intersex can also be used to describe sex differences.

To refer to someone's sexuality, people use the terms "male", or "female".
Genitalia is not synonymous with gender. The sex characteristics that a person inherits from their parents do not indicate a person's gender identity. Understanding the difference between sex and gender will give you a clear idea and help you to understand the person better.

Agender

An agender person does not identify with one gender or may have no gender.
This may also be called neutral gender or null-gender or genderless.

Cisgender

The term refers to a person whose gender identity matches or aligns with their birth sex. If a doctor assigns gender to a baby based on their genitalia and the person is born, and they say congratulations! It's girl," that's what it means to be cisgender.

Androgyne

An androgyne is a person who identifies with both masculines and females.

Bigender

A bigender is someone who has two different genders. Bigender often exhibits cultural masculine or feminine roles.

Transgender

Transgender people are those whose gender identity is not the same as their birth sex. They can be transgender men and women as well as nonbinary persons. This means that they don't identify themselves as either men or women. Remember saying 'a a Trans' or a 'transgender' can be offensive sometimes.

Cishet

"Cishet" refers to individuals whose gender identity (and biological sex) are compatible (cisgender) and who are sexually attracted towards the opposite sex. Cishet would refer to someone who is born with a female vagina and is romantically involved in a relationship with males.

Non-binary

Non-binary can be used to describe a variety of people who don't identify with either male or female.

I think it's so special that even if we decide that people can be who we are, we still want to list. That we still want to give it names. That we may not be able to place in two boxes anymore, so we'll make more boxes. Irritating. Needless. Useless.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone can call themselves as he/they/their/ one wants. No problems with it at all. In my area, however, I usually only see men and women. I know that there are whole discussions going on about this phenomenon. I keep myself on the plain in that. Everyone is free to label themselves.
