Did you know that you can share your or someone else’s post on your Instagram Story? They say sharing is caring, and developers at Instagram appear keen to let you share as much content as you’d like, only when it comes to stories—and memories.

Sharing a post to your Instagram story is easy, whether you want to add your latest vacation pic or your favourite Throwback Thursday memory.

You can do this right from your Instagram feed or by going directly to an individual photo post from a profile. Once the draft loads, treat it as you would any other story by adding some flair with stickers, gifs, countdowns, and more.

How to share an Instagram post on your Instagram Story or in a direct message

To share a post on your Instagram Story it has to be public.

1. Go to the post that you'd like to share on your Story.
2. Tap the paper airplane icon below the post, next to the comments bubble.
3. Tap "Add post to your story."
4. Share the post like you would any other story, by tapping the "Your Story" icon on the next page.

You can also direct message the post to a friend by simply tapping the checkmark next to their username in the window after you tap the paper airplane icon. You can scroll through the list to find their username or search for it in the search bar at the top.

How to Share an Instagram Post With Select Users

Perhaps you want to send someone’s posts to another Instagram user privately. Fortunately, you can. Instagram users can share someone else’s post with their close friends or in a DM. Here’s how:

1. Open Instagram and navigate to the post you’d like to share. Then, tap on the paper airplane icon.

2. Tap the bubble next to the contact where you’d like to share the post. Then, tap Send.

3. Keep in mind that you can also share the post with a group on Instagram. If you select the Create Group option rather than one friend, you can choose multiple Instagram users to see your shared post.

If you want to share your post as a Story, but only with select friends, do this:

1. Navigate to the post you’d like to share and tap on the paper airplane icon.

2. Tap on Add post to your Story.

3. Next, tap on the Close Friends icon to the right of the Your Story option.

Rather than sharing with everyone on Instagram, you’ll only share the post with select friends.

How to share an Instagram post using a hyperlink

Perhaps you've seen an Instagram post displaying a darling gift that you'd love your partner to get you for Christmas, but unfortunately, they aren't on Instagram, so you can't just tag them in the comments section and expect them to see the post.

Luckily, you can copy the public post's hyperlink and email, text, or message the link to any non-Instagram users.

1. Open the Instagram app on your iPhone or Android .

2. Navigate to the post that you'd like to share.

3. Tap the ellipses, or "..." symbol, above the top-right corner of the post.

4. Tap "Copy Link."

The link will be copied to your keyboard, where you can then paste it into a tweet, text, or another messaging app to share.
