The Enchanted Cake
Some days ago @Makayla made a post sharing a recipe of a cake based on cocoa and coffee.
I immediately felt that I would like to try that recipe and commented that I would do so in the forthcoming days.
And I did: yesterday I made the cake for Sunday’s family lunch, today!
As I was mixing the ingredients according to Makayla’s advice a gate of Time smoothly opened before me and I was taken to my sixteen, to my grandparents kitchen and to the chocolate cake whose recipe my Mom had given me so that I could cook nice things here in Portugal.
At the same time, I was beating the batter in Africa, so near to Makayla’s home that I became intensely aware of the sounds, the smells, the colours and the rhytms both inside and outside the house, everything so similar in my imagination to what I experienced at her age.
