Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has announced its latest breakthrough in 5G with the recent rollout of the company's vRAN 2.0 solutions, the first fully virtualized commercial 5G RAN delivered end-to-end from a single vendor. This innovation will help create more programmable networks, dynamically and efficiently providing the right network resources to customers using a variety of advanced wireless applications and services.

Verizon is the first mobile technology company to deploy Samsung's fully virtualized 5G solutions. In a recent announcement, Verizon shared details about this new virtualized network technology, along with the extension of its 5G network to millions of people throughout cities and regions in the United States.

A boost to 5G

Through this collaboration, Samsung and Verizon enable more consumers to benefit from the ultra-fast wireless speeds of 5G and help more businesses take advantage of the technologies necessary for digital transformation. In addition to using vRAN to expand 5G capabilities, Verizon and Samsung have incorporated Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology, which Verizon is using on its 5G Nationwide network. DSS enables 4G LTE and 5G services to operate simultaneously on the same spectrum band, offering greater efficiency and a seamless migration path for customers to 5G.

Samsung vRAN 2.0 provides a software-based architecture that enables easier, more flexible and scalable network deployments. Based on Samsung's fully virtualized 5G RAN technology (launched in July 2020), its vRAN 2.0 solutions will power the next generation of 5G network capabilities, including the ability to quickly transition where it is needed most. It will also support operators when they expand the use of private 5G networks to bring safe 5G indoors.

Samsung has pioneered the successful delivery of end-to-end 5G solutions, including chipsets, radios, and core network technologies. The company provides commercial 5G services in major world markets such as Korea, the United States, and Japan. Additionally, the company is rapidly expanding its global presence into new markets such as Canada and New Zealand.
