Good afternoon all,

I find that more and more believing women are taking up the practice of headwear after it has been watered down around the wave of emancipation in the 1960s.
In the Bible there is a call to women to cover their heads while praying and prophesy. Men should not cover their heads in these two occupations. This is described in 1 Corinth 11.

Little is known about it in the Netherlands nowadays. In 60 years it seems completely gone, except in the most traditional churches. Headscarves now seem reserved for Muslims. “Christians don't do that, do they?” Yes, they did before Islam came into being. The only thing people seem to come up with now are the well-known stereotypes of the 'skirts and hats church goers, often called members of 'black stockings churchs'. Or the nuns from the famous movie Sister Act. This picture is not quite right. I dare even say: not at all.

I am such a woman myself: a Christian woman, covering the head. But I'm not from a conservative reformatory family. In my family (parents, brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts, grandmothers, etc.) I am even the only one among women who wears headgear every day. Besides, I'm not the only woman. Social media shows that more and more women are growing out of curiosity or conviction. For example, in a facebook group for Dutch-speaking Christian women with the specific theme: headgear. When I ask in similar North American groups where the women come from ecclesiastically, it is often a mixture of 1) Catholic, 2) Orthodox, 3) Baptist, 4) Reformatory, 5) Mennonite, and supplement yourself. In America, the US and Canada specifically, there are of course different denominations than those we know here in the Netherlands. But nevertheless: very diverse! The more traditional churches are often represented here more often. But the Protestant churches are really not underneath. Only here it is often a few in a large congregation, unlike, for example, the traditional Russian Orthodox Church or the Eritrean Orthodox State Church where women wear headscarves as soon as they enter the church. Most women from the Protestant churches who cover their heads do so from their own personal conviction or revelation. They have been investigating themselves or have experienced through the Spirit of the Lord that God asks them to do so. Not because they are oppressed, but because they are going to walk this path on their own.

This is the way I wanted to make a call. I am writing a book about headwear among Christian women in the Dutch language. Are there people here who can provide me with even more input? Articles, videos, a historical overview of headgear in Europe or simply an opinion on this practice? I have already been provided with information from the 'Headcovering movement'. Everything is welcome! I hope you found this intro interesting to read.
