They are found all over the world in all shapes (thousands) and sizes. Some are only one millimeter in size, others even more than 25 centimeters.
In Belgium and the Netherlands almost 700 different species of spiders live. Most people probably know the house spider and the cross spider. But, of course, there are many more special species.

Today I get acquainted with the house zebra spider. This little spider (5-7mm) occasionally pops up in my bedroom. I took the opportunity to get to know him a little better.

Good afternoon. What can I call you?

I get spoken to with harlequin sometimes. I think that's a nice name.

That's definitely a nice name. Would you mind if I asked you a few more questions?

Yeah, go ahead. I have some time.

Fine! So I see you sneaking around, but what I wonder now is: do you ever create a web?

No, I've never done that before.

But harlequin, how do you catch a nice juicy mosquito or fly?

Well, they don't call me a jumping pin for nothing. I have four sets of eyes with which I can see perfectly. I can very well estimate distance and perceive shapes and colors.

Ah, so you're jumping your prey.

Exactly!

Gosh, that's interesting. And is it always hit at once or do you ever miss?

I'm pretty good at my job, but I always use a safety wire so if I fall I stick to it.

Wow! That's smart. And is your field of activity always near houses?

No, hear it. I also visit parks a lot, and you can find me on trees and rocks. But on sunny days, chances are you can spot me on walls, fences or fences.
Then I'm all in my element.

Awesome! May I thank you very much for the interview?

I'd like to do it.

I see the zebra spider bending and then jump off quickly. I think he had another date with an unsuspecting aphid.
