Interview with a wood pigeon
I received a visit today from a #houtduif . He wanted to be interviewed.
'There are all kinds of pigeons in the Netherlands, 'I start.
'But I'm the biggest, 'he interrupts me. 'And you can run into me anywhere, 'he adds confidently.
“Everywhere?”
'Everywhere!”
“Gardens?”
'Of course. '
“Parks?”
“Of course.”
“Forests?”
“Yes, everywhere there are trees.”
'For the non-pigeon connoisseurs among us: how can we best recognize you? '
'I have a white spot on my neck.”
'Clearly. And what do you like to eat?”
'We prefer to eat seeds, buds and leaves. But we also like to harvest grains from fields. Of course, people leave something behind (they are sometimes so sloppy with food residues) and then we are not too bad to accept that too. '
“And do you ever pull away?”
'I like it very well here in the Netherlands, but sometimes we can indeed be found across the border. '
“Like?”
“Well, I have a rich cousin who has a cottage in France as well as in Spain. And sometimes wood pigeons from Germany come to stay with us. '
“Gee, that's interesting.”
'Yes, we are certainly interesting. Much prettier than those city pigeons. But if you don't mind, I'll go. I see an attractive hen sitting there in that tree...
And then the (handsome) bird had flown...
