Jesse OWENS
#blacklivesmatter Jesse Owens was born in Alabama on September 12, 1913. This African-American American sportsman made the rise to international fame by winning four gold medals at the Berlin 1936 Olympic Games.
Owens traveled to Berlin to participate in the 1936 Olympic Games, an event supervised by Adolf Hitler, where the new German chancellor expected him to dominate the supremacy of the “Aryan race".
But it was not so: African-American athlete Jesse Owens became the center of all eyes. He won the 100m in 10.30 seconds, 200m in 20.70 seconds, and then the long jump, with an impressive jump of 8.06 meters.
During the Berlin Games, in addition to his sporting achievements, he highlighted the controversial situation he had to live with Adolf Hitler, who refused to shake his hand during the award of medals for being African-American.
The importance of Owens' performance has transcended and resonated over the years in many ways. In a way, he was better treated by the supremacists of Nazi Germany, who allowed him to stay in the same hotel and mingle with other athletes, than in the United States, racially segregated.
His achievements were barely recognized by his own government (“Although I was not invited to shake Hitler's hand, I was also not invited to the White House to shake his hand with the president.".
His lasting friendship with the German silver medalist Long Jump, who died in World War II fighting for the Nazi regime, was a reflection of how sport does not understand race or borders.

Me encantó que eligieras a un gran atleta, una persona "común” que escribió una página de Historia por ser quien era. Esto demostró la total falta de significado de todas las formas de discriminación contra las personas, en primer lugar por razones raciales.
