Kimmie en Ko in Curacao
After a long journey Kimmie and Ko arrive in Curaçao. They are happy to finally be on an island again.
Of course they first fly over the beach. They find a secluded spot, free of people.
They settle down and enjoy the sun and the sea. There is a cool breeze. They feel quite at home here.
'Look Kimmie, there is a sea turtle,' says Ko.
'Oh, how sweet, he must have just come out of his egg.'
'Shouldn't he be going to sea?'
'You are right, Ko, he is going in the wrong direction.'
They walk a little along with the turtle.
'Hello!' says Ko.
The young turtle says nothing and trudges on.
'You are going the wrong way,' says Ko, while standing in front of the turtle.
The turtle stops and looks at Ko. 'Get out of the way,' says the creature.
'But you're not going the right way,' says Ko. 'The sea is there,' he points with his wing.
'I don't want to go to the sea,' says the turtle.
'Why not?' asks Kimmie.
'Why should I venture into the sea? It is much too dangerous. The sea is full of predators who would kill me. I could also be run over by a boat. And what about all the plastic waste in the sea? I'm not in the mood for a belly full of rubbish.'
'Well, you've got a point there. The sea is not very safe indeed,' Ko admits.
'That's why I stay on land,' says the turtle.
'But you are a sea turtle, aren't you?'
'Then I will become a land turtle. Don't they exist too?'
'I think so.'
'Good.'
'Do you have a name?' asks Ko.
'Is that important?' says the turtle.
'It may be useful. I am Ko the canary and this is my wife Kimmie. We travel all over the world and like to make acquaintance with other animals.'
'Hm, that does sound interesting,' says the turtle. He thinks for a moment and then says: 'Call me Lala.'
'Where did you get that idea?'
'That sounds cheerful,' says the turtle as he hops along.
'Do you mind if we join you?' Ko asks.
'I would be glad to,' says Lala. 'The more the merrier.'
And off they go: two canaries and a tortoise hopping over the beautiful island of Curaçao.
