Let's talk about grass!
It often strikes me that in the world of ecological gardening today the lawn has the unenvied status With some sense of exaggeration, the pride of a beautiful and neat lawn has given way to a deep hidden shame. Where people used to be together and enjoy a cigarette, our grass now has the same thing. A group of silently sunning on the green sheet may be fine, the feeling is — rightly or wrongly — that the eyes surrounding us quickly zoom in on how many square meters could have been better spent. Green may be the most symbolic colour of nature, that same colour is in association with the green plain of a trimmed lawn not done. The foregoing is not a statement for one or another, it is rather a statement.
But what is wrong about a lawn, if something is wrong about it? Is it right to be overloaded with all sins? There is no trivial answer to that question, because between a spon coated billiard sheet and the long-haired spries where toads
and dragonflies hide with pleasure and joy of life, there is, of course, a big difference. So it is not so much the grass itself, but the way in which we treat and manage the grass, which could be the killer. According to various studies, the lawn in our Flemish gardens occupies an average of between 25 and 50% of the garden area. This is a fairly wide limit and it is not the case that the studies contradict each other. The area varies according to the type of gardener, the family composition and the type of gardener.
residential. For example, villa gardens are located at the upper limit and the ecologically involved, informed and active gardeners cover the bottom. We cannot ignore the fact that grass is not the most biodiverse medium in itself. mainly the grass management that deserves attention here
, because if those who want to create their lawn, a taboo atmosphere is especially demotivating and counterproductive. And children should have room to play, for them the green sheet may be a first step to a more extensive nature experience.
