The Christmas tree stands. Although the balls shine less nicely than last year and the garlands have something boring, I still place the peak proudly on top. Now the lights seem to be laughing at me, those same lights that always shined so beautifully, treasure now, mocking, snarling.
“Is this the Christmas message you're exuding? What does that peak actually say? Is this the top of your ability? Focus on peace, fellow man and nature!'
With the simple push of a button, I silence the light.
My mostly predictable daughter comes home.
'Hey, the tree is standing, cozy atmosphere in this dark month, the lights are allowed? And where are the lovely red christmas bells? In the attic?'
I turn the switch back, drive demons out of my head, domestic harmony prevails. Not only during Christmas but always.
