When youthful people face death, they experience the most profound form of loss. The impact this form of loss brings about is enormous: a scent, a piece of music, a store, a certain day, these are all triggers that can evoke memories, even years later. These triggers can cause spontaneous crying or anger outbursts.
When youthful people face this form of loss, both emotional development and cognitive development are disrupted, they can show sorrow and mourn in many ways. Being a parent, educator, or professional, it's important to be there and discuss what happened at these times. It starts by recognizing the feelings and emotions that are visible as a result of loss and mourning, and then acknowledging them.
