Marquette Castle, Heemskerk.

Small walk around the castle.

At the beginning of August we ended up at Marquette Castle (Heemskerk) by chance. From the parking lot we find a path that runs around the castle.

On the left side we keep the castle in sight.

On the right side we have nice views over the meadows.

Here we keep walking around. Such a nice atmosphere here with all those big trees.

The last part of the walk, the view of the castle is getting more beautiful.

Normally you can have a drink on the terrace, but today there's a private party. So sadly.

But we'll walk a little further.

And then see two spotted woodpeckers poking pressure in the grass in the pasture next to the trail. It's very nice that my mother let me borrow her SLR camera with telephoto lens. They don't care about me shooting a lot of pictures of them. In the end, I blew up the photos so they're not really great. But I do like the fact that I was able to get them a little closer.

Always believed that only green woodpeckers came to forage on the ground. so misthought.

@Marc De Bisschop and @Madeleine Indeed I always thought that it was only the green woodpecker looking for food on the ground, but I have seen spotted woodpeckers scurrying around the ground more often. Last self in the front yard of a farm.

Beautiful photo blog. I know the castle from my childhood when I lived in Aerdenhout. As young boys, we drove along with the mopeds on our way to Bergen.
