Meaning in the face of a life-changing illness

May I just call in your help. I am taking two studies and I need to write a final thesis for both. For one course, higher professional education pedagogy, no problems so far. For the other course, HBO spiritual counselor, the guidelines are a bit more unclear, which seems looser, despite the fact that it is also a higher professional education. For the first setup, we had to write a piece of at least 300 words that you would like to write your thesis about, from there is the starting point. Can someone read along. What are your thoughts about this, what questions arise?

I'm going to write a thesis about meaning in case of illness. In this thesis, I will discuss what the spiritual counselor could mean for a person who has been diagnosed with a disease in terms of the meaning part. In this thesis, it will highlight from different perspectives how questions such as:

  • How does the environment deal with the diagnosis? How does the environment interact with the person with the disease?
  • What does the diagnosis do to the person himself? What future prospects does the person see in front of him after the diagnosis?
  • What is needed for the person himself, in particular, to discover who he or she is now with this diagnosis, now that a different future perspective is suddenly being created.
The different perspectives will be highlighted from, among other things, the social context, as everyone likes it. The danger is that opinions can be affected. It will also look at the parenting context, how much has ever been talked about in the upbringing about situations such as this? The way in which one is raised also has an impact on how one deals with themes that one encounters in life. Finally, it also looks at what that is like from religion. It may be that because of religion, one has never talked about how and what if there was illness.

In this thesis, the wheel of life will be included as support to be able to work it out completely. With the wheel of life, insights can be gained to clarify what the spiritual counselor could mean for a person with a disease in terms of the meaning part. The wheel of life is a method of easily gaining insights in which areas one gets stuck in life, making it easier to hook up with any meaning questions.

In response to the challenge around #spirituality in the meantime, I know that there are a number here at Yoors that I think could provide me with some feedback on this piece so that I can take steps to move forward. I have already read nice posts that may be in line with this topic of @Dewaputra   @De story witch   @Kim   @Rabje and @Lars Greys So if you can do with this feedback, I would love to. What ideas do you have so that I can continue to write a smashing final thesis of it.

Interesting topic. I think your illness needs to specify a little more in your piece. I suspect you don't mean just a flu, but a disease that asks someone existential questions. So it goes e.g. to treat a life-threatening illness, or a chronic illness?
