During one of our trips, we were in Thailand on Mother's Day.
In Thailand, Mother's Day falls every year on August 12, so not, as with us the second Sunday in May.

We heard that it was Mother's Day at the time we were in a hotel where we had established good contact with the owner and her parents.
That's why we said to the mother: oh nice, so you'll get gifts tomorrow and be spoiled (because that's how it goes in the Netherlands).
I've rarely seen a Thai woman laugh so hard.

Because no, Mother's Day in Thailand does not initially revolve around the mother.
It's about the mother of all Thai: the queen!
It will be put in the spotlight this day.
Mother's Day, we were told is a national holiday in Thailand.

Mothers all over Thailand are a little spoiled by their own children (Grandma's, of course, too).
They often get a wreath made of Jasmine flowers.
The sweet scented white Jasmine blooms in Thailand all year round, and symbolizes the child's eternal love for the mother.
Also, the children often go out to dinner with their mother on this day.

Mother's Day in Thailand, so much less revolves around the “regular” mother.
There is a lot about the royal family, and that is clearly evident in this too!
