The problems with #mondkapjes are piling up. There is a shortage of top quality masks for ICs, and nursing staff are at risk of infection due to unreliable 'medical' caps. A new problem category is in the making: the non-medical caps, mandatory in public transport from Monday: 'You can also use chicken wire.The problem with mouth caps is as old as the #coronacrisis . There were shortages for intensive hospital care for covid-19 patients from the outset, and almost immediately a gap emerged in the market for dubious traders in defective masks with false quality (certificates).
The obligation for masks in public transport to be introduced on 1 June creates a second gap in the market. Now for traders in the non-medical mouth masks with which you will have to travel from Monday on bus, train and subway.
The Dutch Health Inspectorate does not impose legal requirements on the quality and protection filter of public transport masks. Last week, NEN, the Dutch Institute for Guidelines and Standards, published a 'specification document' on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Science — but there are no standards for the filter in mouthcaps.
Experts consider the lack of a limit value for the filtering capacity of caps 'absurd'. The product is worn on the skin. Requirements are normally imposed.
In France and Belgium, a quality standard applies to filter in consumer masks, which are also worn in public transport.
