Muhlsteinhohlen Gerolstein -Roth - Tip Volcano Eifel in Germany
Millstone - caves near Gerolstein - Roth.
In the eifel volcano, millstones were cut from the rocks at various places. The resulting “hohlen” - shallow caves - are now freely accessible. We went to the Muhlsteinhohlen Roth near Gerolstein. Great fun with kids!
On the road between Müllenborn and Roth it is signposted where the hohlen can be found. You can park fairly high in the forest, so you don't have to walk or climb to get to the hohlen.
You will still find a lot of millstones, which were mined from the 13th century onwards.

The Eifel is fairly close to the Netherlands, so a day trip should be possible.

fun! Seeing the icicles also seems nice. But yes then it is probably also (very) smooth inside. So I'll just stay away from it.
