It has been a while since I was approached by Carl Doeke Eisma, a journalist who used to know my father and wrote a piece about him in De Oud Hagenaar. A newspaper aimed at people over 50 and about the people who lived in The Hague. That's what my father has, and I really think this is an honor to be allowed to do this for my father.

PUZZLED

Of course, I was very surprised that Mr.. Carl Doeke Eisma, contacted me after he found me on the internet. When he told me who he was and that he wanted to write a piece about my father in De oud Hagenaar. I found this very special and beautiful at the same time, that he had not forgotten my father. So he could tell things that I didn't know about my father and that he doesn't just live in my memories. Because that's how you can see that my father still lives with other people in memories he used to know.

COMMENTS ON THE ARTICLE

After the article was posted in the newspaper, I had a lot of positive comments. That did me good again, because my father was just such an eccentric figure and is also a colorful figure. A person you do not meet every day, which you certainly look at when you meet him and wonder what kind of person he is.

The best reaction I've had was that a person had a conversation with my father about the first world war and how it really started. That person is going to figure that out and now use that in his story during the excursions at the Ypres Excursions that this person is now giving. Wherever I myself intend to go sometime.
