The first mention of static electricity is found in the writings of a Greek philosopher, Thales of Miletus. He wrote 600 years before Christ: “If a stone is rubbed hard enough, tiny particles of dust stick to it that can cause a reaction.

It seems like a simple fact. It is therefore caused by friction. However, it was not possible to explain how this can sometimes cause a discharge.

The interactions between electrons take place at the nano level. This makes loads very difficult to measure.

Ik weet niet meer met wat we vroeger op school experimenteerden, maar ik weet wel dat mijn klasgenoten, de meester en ik ontzettend hebben gelachen.
