Opportunity for light clouds again in the coming weeks - with photography tips
It is the time to see and photograph light night clouds!
Around the period of the shortest night, midsummer (see blog below), light nocturnal clouds appear in the sky!
1 to 1 1/2 hours after sunset, the bright clouds can be seen, or from 1 1/2 hours before sunrise. If you look north, you can see them emerging from west to east. They originate at an altitude of about 80 kilometers in the air. This is much higher than the “normal clouds” that form up to 20 kilometers in the air.
The high clouds often consist of ice crystals that have bound themselves to small particles of dust. When the sun disappears below the horizon, the rays that come along the horizon shine at the bottom of the high clouds, making them glow in the dark. It often blows strongly at high altitudes, and that wind can be very irregular. This gives you the undulating movement that is so cool to see!
