That's why I'm offering you an educational lesson playing guitar. In this post you will learn to play “Shape of you” by Ed Sheeran on the guitar within a day, without the experience of tricky chords. If you want to continue learning to play guitar later, you should of course learn chords, but that is a matter of practicing, persevering and a lot of patience. Education: The correct posture

In the picture on the right you can see me, with my western guitar. I deliberately chose for a western guitar with steel strings, because I personally like the sounds more beautiful. And this Morgan guitar comes with a built-in amplifier, which makes expanding later very easy.


The correct posture for playing guitar is with a straight back, and the guitar tightly to your body. The roundness allows you to rest on your right leg, provided you are on the right. It doesn't make any difference whether you're sitting with your legs over each other or not. You hold your right hand against the cabinet of the guitar, and the movement of your right hand comes mainly from your wrist. You will be able to recognize many starting guitarists by their right hand, not only use their wrist when hitting the strings, but also the rest of the arm goes up and down, then in most cases you don't have to deal with a very experienced guitarist.

You use your left hand to press the strings on the ferrets. The palm of your left hand is tight against the neck of the guitar, with your thumb up, allowing you to put enough force with your four fingers to press the strings

How to play along with Ed Sheeran Shape of you on the guitar, without chords

    • Your right hand tight on the cabinet, using only the thumb of your right hand to hit the second string from below, this is called the B string (note making small movements with your thumb, and always keep connected between your palm and the guitar
    • Use your index finger of your left hand to press the strings between the ferrets. This is a matter of trying out, you don't get a nice sound too loud, but not too soft either. You should try to press the strings as close as possible to the ferret for the purest sound. Always keep a verbingind with the neck of the guitar
    You press the ferrets as follows: (0 = no press ferret - 2 = press the 2nd fret - 4 = press the 4th fret and so on)

  • This is the only thing you will repeat the whole song Shape of you by Ed Sheeran. The song is a bit more up-tempo, so try to keep track of the rhythm of the video below.
