Trimmed Edges

He wanted to be happy

To once again have a feel of ecstacy

He said the lady before her left in him a hole

Ever since he’s been trying again and again to become whole

She was willing the space fill

Ecstacy maybe to make him feel

What she had was wasn’t the right fit

Maybe if she trimmed the edges a little bit

A little bit on this side, a little more on that side she started to trim

She worked on herself for days

Some nights she had to stay awake

Working her heart to fit —trimming it away

Until there was nothing left to trim away…
