R.I.P. Vangelis
Vangelis, the Greek composer and musician whose synth-driven work brought huge drama to film music including Blade Runner and Chariots of Fire, has died at the age of 79. His representatives said he died at the hospital in France, where he was being treated. In the Netherlands, Vangelis, real name Evangelos Odysseas Papathanasiou, 1943-2022 is still in the top 5 of longest-listed number 1 hits in the Top 40. The song reached the Netherlands in 1995, its peak, after which Conquest of Paradise topped the Top 40 for 10 weeks in the summer of that year.
