Garden and old railway near Weelde
Evening primrose flowers, snake herbs, kite and other biennial rosettes germinate on the rotated terrain near the old railway of Weelde. Of course, the classic field weeds are also present, especially the poppy has already begun its spectacular flowering. As a third plant community, it is mainly the witch herbs such as thorn apple and henzeweed that spread their magical scents. For a herbist, this is almost too much. What an abundance of meaning, what a symbolic and historical value on a few square meters!
- Evening primrose, a guest worker of the umpteenth generation, whose seeds helped to decipher genetic codes.
- Wouw or Reseda luteola, a historical dye that used to paint our clothes yellow.
- Poppy, a companion of human activities from agriculture to battlefield.
- Thornappel, a deadly prickly apple that in a very distant past has shaken the primitive brain of the gay erectus, making us now a little gay sapiens, thinking (or depraved?) have become human.
- Greywort or millwort, the annual plant that travelled with train and wheat to settle here.
This is how the dilapidated railway of Weelde tells its own history! A garden in Weelde tells my history!
