In the news:

Sex at a later age helps to keep your brain fit, more than crosswords even. Tell him it's a recommendation from the renowned University of Oxford.

Where does this news come from?

Scientists from Oxford University found 73 people over 50 years old (45 women and 28 men) willing to participate in an interview about their sex life and then in a number of cognitive tests (including memory tests, verbal and orientation tests) (1). The interview asked how often they had sex in the past year: never, once a month or once a week. Subsequently, the results of the cognitive tests of people who made love once a week were compared with people who never had sex or once a month. The respondents who had not had sex in the past year scored lower on all braintests. Those who had sex once a month scored higher, but the best scores were those who had sex weekly. Of the 73 participants, most of them had sex once a week, regardless of age, education and health. Ten people, only women, hadn't had sex in the last year.

The researchers conclude that an active sex life in old age is good for the functioning of the brain.
