Since I stopped drinking
A disarming account of 500 days without alcohol
Out of a desire for control, austerity and a healthier life, Evi Hanssen decided not to drink a drop of alcohol anymore. For 500 days, she kept a diary in which she talks candidly and a hundred out about the many trials she encounters in her path. Her choice to swear off spirited drinks not only has physical consequences, it also has an effect on her friendships, her relationship, her work and her self-image. With the necessary dose of humor, Evi finds out exactly who she is without that cozy glass in hand.
Do I dare to never drink alcohol again?
Well, I have to say right away that I don't have a drinking problem. Because that's what people quickly think when you say you want to moderate. That is the dual attitude that you always face:
I don't drink alcohol
Oh how unsociable
I want to drink less
Oh do you have a problem?
Japan wants residents to drink more alcohol . With a new campaign, the Japanese tax authorities want to encourage alcohol consumption in order to combat declining excise revenues.
Japanese people are allowed to drink a little more, says the country's tax authorities. With the 'Sake Viva' campaign, the national tax agency NTA is collecting ideas to encourage alcohol consumption. In doing so, the NTA hopes to breathe new life into the industry. Japan's alcohol market shrinks. Ageing and changes in the lifestyle of younger generations are reducing alcohol sales, and thus tax revenues. According to CNN, the Japanese state treasury received 11 trillion yen (85 billion euros) in alcohol taxes last year, 17 percent of all revenues. Ten years earlier, that was still 3 percent. FT writes that alcohol consumption per person has fallen by a quarter since 1995 to 75 liters in 2020.The idea campaign is not only about sake, but also about other types of Japanese drinks, such as whiskey and awamori. The organization is also specifically asking for new sales methods with artificial intelligence and the Metaverse, the virtual reality world devised by Facebook's parent company. Plans can be submitted until September 9, Japanese only.
