Song of the day

Today we go back in time to 1987 when Cyndi Lauper released this single with the song What's Going On on her second album True Colors. It is a cover song of the previously released song by Marvin Gaye who released this song in 1971. One of the Four Tops band members, Renaldo Obie Benson, composed this song together with Marvin Gaye and Al Cleveland in response to police brutality against people or groups, which Benson also experienced during a bus stop when he saw a crowd of protesters being broken up by police violence. What's Going On is not a protest song, however, but a love song. The song is about loving and respecting each other. It is a song in which Benson reflected what he was wondering when he stood there with the bus during that stop. What am I seeing now, what is going on there? How do people treat each other? We know Cyndi Lauper mainly for her 80s hits like True Colors, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Time after Time, but she also does this song fantastically and in her own way. It is electronic pop music, but if you listen carefully you can still hear the Motown sound in the song. Enjoy listening!
