Spices watching on the
This time, alone on my way in my motorhome. From the Flemish Ronse I drive straight to the South, although I do end up in northern France. Not exactly the most beautiful France, messy and for me too flat. Yet there are also small places to enjoy in that large North.
Between Avesnes and Vervins for example in Fontaine aux Vervins, I see a shimmering water surface in a flash to the right of the road in the depth. I am already past but turn back because there seems to be a nice parking lot and I still have to have a picnic and stretch my legs. And yes, a beautiful long lake with everything on and on it, ducklings and floating aquatic plants, such as yellow plump, mussthistle and lis along the edge and in the distance as a backdrop a castle-like house. A print escapes from the booklets.
Weeds along the road
After this, of course, I can take it again. On to Reims and Chalons sur Marne. The landscape here is mainly wavy, endless fields of ripening yellow grain, faded rapeseed fields, some corn, but also quite a lot of flowering fields with actually broad beans. And with all those monocultures, our brave arable herbs try to bring some color variations. At the village of Montcornet even a whole field of poppies sets the landscape on fire. I'm so impressed I'll even take a detour for it.
Along the edges of fields, wild plants, of course, are most likely. Now in June it is also a driving party, poppies, cornflowers, chamomile but also the rare Wild Wheat I see occasionally. Of course, I have to keep my eyes on the road, so I stop again, just before Chalons. On the Aire de Saint Martin sur le Pré. The track here is a kind of motorway with also stops with restaurant and shop, only not completely closed like at the péage and so I can escape to a large vacant field with chamomile, poppies, bird vetch, earth roofer and... unfortunately here no Wild meadow and that's what I was just for stopped.
