Plastic Soup Turns Ocean in Classroom

Collecting, separating, recycling and learning about our waste: We all know that the animals in the ocean are not doing well. Due to a lot of plastic in the water, the so-called Plastic Soup, animals get entangled, or the stomachs become full of junk. Many animals die a very bad death due to OUR waste.

We're going to do something with our waste! And with that, we score several points:

  • We collect our waste
  • We learn to separate our waste
  • We recycle the waste
  • We learn about the influence of plastic in the Oceans

  1. Make (fantasy) ocean animals out of waste. Think of cans, plastic, cardboard, old CDs, fabric, strings, toilet rolls, styrofoam, paper scraps, caps, sticks, foil, empty bottles, milk cartons. Doesn't matter, as long as it's clean!
  2. Separate waste with each other! Place 5 bins or buckets next to each other and stick “paper” and “Plastic” “Tin” “Tetra packs” and “Residual waste” (Movement Education)
  3. Tell students how so much waste gets into nature, what plastic soup is and what the impact is on the animals and the rest of nature. What is already being done to reduce plastic waste? What can you do yourself?
  4. Higher classes can come up with new solutions for the immediate environment. At home, at school, on the playing field, at the (sports) association.
