The glory hole
Recently I came across a video of a big “hole” in a river where water disappeared.
Maybe it's a familiar thing, but I didn't know anything about it, so I thought, “What kind of natural phenomenon is this?!”
I went to look it up and what turned out? The “hole” turned out to be an emergency exit in a reservoir.
Lake Berryessa is a reservoir in Napa, California. The dam in the lake is the Monticello dam whose construction was completed in 1958.
Near the Monticello dam there is an emergency exit in the reservoir: a hole of 22 meters in diameter that The glory hole is called. At high tide it looks quite impressive.
