Travel by motorhome: Cap Blanc Nez and Gris Nez
February 1st: to the French Caps
Still a lot of work to make my Hymermotorhome drive and home ready. Install WC casette, fill water tank, bed decks, purchase gas cylinders, clothing and food. And then check everything and start up; electricity, gas, water pump and water heater. And of course the car itself. I want to automatically press the start code but suddenly I forgot the number code. And I who was so proud to finally remember some figures. A little panic, but luckily knew Marleen still has the code.
So on the afternoon still quietly on the way via Brussels, Ghent to the French North Coast. Quiet it has to be, because it is getting more and more foggy in French-Flanders. At Steenvoorde where we want to take the A25 towards Calais, the driveway is completely closed. Later we learn that there had been several chain collisions in the morning. “Carambolages sur l” A25, pagaille sur les routes “bloklettert” La Voix du Nord ". We then drive via St Omer to Calais. A Flemish landscape in a foggy France.
Blanc Nez and Wissant
Flemish landscape until the limestone cliffs of Blanc Nez emerge from fog and sea. The parking above is not really attractive, so a bit further in a wavy dunes and arable landscape to Wissant (white sand?). My memory of 20 years ago: a hotel close to the sea, at the mouth of a muddy stream with white swans, turns out to be completely correct. It is Hotel de la Plage. Strange, how a vague image from my past takes shape again. Even the swans are still there, although I am sure now.
