Whether he's a day ahead or almost a year behind is not entirely clear, but uncle has one solid tradition as long as he can remember. Uncle's doing the New Year's Dive. Around noon he steps into his bathroom to come out shining clean three hours later.
Droedel is not so fond of bathing and around that time is more or less lost. That's why uncle has been accompanied by his inseparable duck for as long as he can remember. Three hours later, he gets rested and refreshed from the bathroom. And so Uncle can get clean back into the New Year.
