Ik vind dat ik goed bezig ben, weet dat vlees zwaar rekent in dit soort dingen, maar ben ervan overtuigd dat mensen vlees nodig hebben. Regeringen en landen doen met hun mond vol mooie praatjes zoveel slechts voor de planeet, daar moet eerst maar eens begonnen worden. En dan doel ik niet op het afschaffen van gas en burgers grote rekeningen in de maag splitsen omdat we zo nodig aan de electrische auto moeten enzo... het is allemaal zo tegenstrijdig.

Buying an energy-efficient car? 94 percent of the Dutch are willing to do so — only 24 percent have actually ever done so. Buy a smartphone that lasts? “Yes”, say almost all Dutch people, but around 23 percent did this in the past. And almost 90 percent of the Dutch really want to buy food with reusable packaging; only the majority of them only buy products whose packaging ends up directly in the bin at the supermarket.

We should not try to guide our poor fellow citizens with positivist perspectives towards healthy choices, to separate the plastic layer of their fat paper from the real paper and deposit both components in different waste bins, we must be honest. There is absolutely no hope. The only honest answer is that it is too late, that the economic stakes are too great, that our generation has ruined it and that there is no hope left. The only thing we can do is try to prevent things from getting worse at the cost of enormous efforts and economic sacrifices. But even if we succeed, which won't be the case, it's bad enough.
