War and art - The Polygon Wood Walk - The Legacy of Passchendaele
Just before the heat wave became disproportionate, but was already in the air, I ventured on a walk of a good 9 km: The Polygon Wood Walk.
The hike starts at the tourist information service in Zonnebeke and runs along the Polygon forest.
It is a walk that certainly impresses people interested in World War I. ( https://www.natuurenbos.be/polygoonbos )
By the way, you have several loop walks around this theme. Take a look here: https://www.toerismewesthoek.be/nl/inspiratie/wandelen-zonnebeke
If you leave the city park at the tourist office, you will first pass the small-scale Polygon Wood Cemetery.
If you walk through this cemetery, you'll get a Cross of Sacrifice.
This monument can be found at almost every Commonwealth war cemetery of at least 40 graves.
It usually consists of a Latin cross in white stone with a bronze sword in the middle.
