What is Glasfusing?
Glassfusing is amolten glass technique used in glass art. Glass is melted into a different shape, by means of an oven. The glass particles melt together due to the heat. Different colors of pieces or strips of glass are joined together (e.g. on a glass plate) and in the oven it melts /curves into a new whole.
The melting is done in a special glass oven (600-800 degrees). You can make something in 2D (flat) e.g. a window hanger, or something in 3D like a fruit bowl.Depending on the number of layers of glass, the object shrinks or, on the contrary, flows out.
A flat workpiece only needs to be placed in the oven once. That takes about 20-24 hours! If you want a 3D workpiece, e.g. a hollow shell, it must be placed in the oven a second time. It then goes into a mold of ceramic or stainless steel, because of the heat, the glass takes the shape of the mold, so that it becomes 3D.
Glasfusen can be done by young and old. Below you will find information where children could do a workshop Glassfusing, if you like it.
Het lijkt me een leuke hobby!
Zo'n glasoven, is dat een duur dingetje?
