#qa "Evidence" is a short story by Isaac Asimov, first published in September 1946 in 'Astounding Science Fiction' magazine. In it, he describes how Stephen Byerley is severely injured in a car accident. After a long recovery he becomes involved in politics, eventually running for mayor of a big American city. His opponent in the race claims that the real Byerley was gravely disfigured and injured and that the one who appears in public is actually a humanoid robot.


Most voters do not believe this, but what if he is right?


Byerley - robot or human - appears likeable and to do the right thing on every occasion, incapable of cruelty or injustice.


All attempts to discover - fail. And some characters in the story would vote for him, regardless, even if he were to go even higher - president ...
