You'd almost forget it, the Yoors flower parade!
I was “just” preoccupied with other challenges and of course my vacation in Iceland.

But carefully, I'm trying to pick things up again, with today: day 96.
A nice day for the Judas Tree.
The official name of the Judas tree is: Cercis siliquastrum.
Like usually, not to remember, so I'll keep it on Judas tree.

This tree is found in the wild in Southern Europe and Western Asia, in the Netherlands you will find cultivated specimens.
The tree loves calcareous soil, and sun.
Furthermore, the tree is not demanding.
We got a copy from my father, it seemed nice to stand against our white outer wall.

The Judas tree is unique because it blooms directly on the trunk.
The tree blooms with pink flowers, before the tree enters the leaf.
The tree blooms from May to July.
It is a slow grower, but it can grow up to 10 meters high.
As the tree grows older, the trunk becomes more and more beautiful, it changes to gray, with dark grooves.

The flowers of the Judas tree are butterfly-shaped.
The leaf is heart-shaped.
In autumn, the tree forms pods, which contain seeds.
I understand from my father that the tree is easy to sow in certain years, while in other years it does not work out at all, the reason is unknown.

Wikipedia tells another legend about the tree I don't want to remember you: The tree is called arbre de Judée in French, which is a reference to the origin of the tree: it comes from Judea. In many other languages, including Dutch, the tree has come to be called judas tree, under the influence of the popular belief that Judas would have hung himself on such a tree after his betrayal. The originally white flowers would be red with shame. The shape of the leaves, like that of the seed boxes of the juda medal, is also compared with the silver rings that Judas had received for his treason. (Source: wikipedia)
