I choose Zwarte Piet because:
1.all those modern colors - as you say - are impossible to explain to the kids,
2.the cultural tradition has nothing to do with old slavery anymore.
But under one condition. The figure 'Zwarte Piet' should not be portrayed as a loser, as has indeed happened in the past.

The poll is clear !!!

I understand that people may find it racist but for me it's just a logical consequence of crawling down a chimney. A chimney is black with soot, so its face is therefore also black. Doesn't matter what color is underneath.

for me, it's okay to stay black piet, I don't see anything wrong with it and neither do children, they're the big people

@frieke Is completely correct!

Just Piet! Keeping up with the changing times. Traditions can also change, and that's fine. The roe has also been abolished for a long time, for example, no problem either. We can also create new traditions!

@ellesvandenbroek Of course, we can make new traditions. I'm certainly a modern mom. But should the old tradition be abolished for that?. There are always people, and certainly also children, who grow up with the Sinterklaas and zwarte piet story.

@Kinderworkshops Petra No, the tradition keeps up with the times. Does not disappear. I really think that the experience for the children does not change with other Pieten.

It is a tradition, a children's party that has nothing to do with all the bad events of the past. It's just black with soot and what's wrong with the color black?

@The Creative Bumblebea There is also nothing wrong with the color black. But that's what people make of it.

All black for me. That's how I remember them from my childhood and conservatively as I am, memories don't change.

Zwarte Piet, no doubt. They don't have to change an age-old tradition. There is nothing racist about it. For the kids, it's just black because of the fireplace.

@enigma So that's what I mean. No other color comes out.

@enigma No house has a fireplace anymore, and the young children don't even know Zwarte Piet anymore. Doesn't change the experience they now have at the Sinterklaas party. We're so tough on 'it's always been like this, so it should stay that way'.

@ellesvandenbroek In my family, everyone has some kind of fireplace, though. :-)
What do you do with all those Sinterklaas songs that feature 'Zwarte' Piet? ? Also modify them all ?

@enigma yes, they have been modified indeed. Just listen to the entry and other programs.
