Crumb's great adventure
Crumb was feeling proud. He looked magnificent, he thought, catching his reflection in the Great Oven door. He crackled excitedly, ready to conquer the world with his army of twin brothers and sisters, all like him, with crispy heads and fluffy feet, huddled together in a golden loaf of bread.
Their Creator, the Baker, welcomed them with a pleased grin and promised a journey of adventure.
However, Crumb soon realised that the journey was called breakfast and it involved being broken down to nutrients, swimming in acidic fluids. He quickly decided such an adventure was not for him.
As he dangled precariously mid-air, feeling the ominous aroma of strawberry jam, he took a free dive onto the floor below.
‘Free at last!’, he rejoiced, not noticing the fast approach of the inquisitive nose and brittle tongue of Tobias, the cat.
