Banana trees produce fruit only once in their lives. Then they are replaced by new trees and end up on the waste heap. And this while the fibers of banana trees are strong, biodegradable and sustainable.

Islanders of Kosrae (an island in the Pacific Ocean) make the most beautiful stuff from fibers from banana trees such as wallets, (laptop) bags, beads and paper. By intertwining the fibres in new (green) products, banana farmers and islanders have an extra and fair source of income and save a lot of waste. For example, in three years they have already recycled 80,000 kilos of bananas thrown away!
