... there are these beautiful animals; Scottish highlanders, just along and on the roadway.

Because of a road fence in or near Dwingeloo, I was' forced 'to take an alternative route. The most logical thing was to drive via Meppel; a boring route and very much around. Pretty fast though. But I thought, if I have to take an alternative, we really go for touristy! So from Assen I took the exit towards Drachten, also known as the “Friesland-route”. But instead of taking the Appelscha exit, as my navigation system indicated, I decided to go off one turn earlier. Not regretted it!

Here too I came (partly) by Appelscha, at least, along the 'outside', I suspect. There I passed a building where we spent as schoolchildren on a school trip. Hardly paid attention at the time but now I was amazed at what kind of beautiful nature reserve is in my backyard! Well, from a fifteen minute drive then... Beautiful plains with heather, nature and almost no home to be seen anymore. You really feel like you're in another world or at least in another country. So did when I passed through the place ' Waters 'drove. (This is, incidentally, the birthplace of ' the incredible Dr. Pol ') Idem in the town' Old Willem 'and on the road of the latter hamlet towards Doldersum , I saw a warning sign “Cattle on the roadway”. “Oh, if a farmer has to take his cows from one meadow to another, of course...“, I thought. A little later a ferry grid was indicated, which I then also got over. What does my surprise outline? Indeed cows on the 'roadway', loose, between the spring grilles. Also in the roadside, through the ditch and on the plain. Well, you really don't expect cows running loose! Okay, there was a sign. But really rocking cows still in the Netherlands?

They weren't just cows either, no, Scottish Highlanders. Never seen in real life, I don't think. And you do understand that the car went on the side of the road, of course, and the mobile there! 2 Short movies I have made and several pictures. Hopefully you will find them worthwhile too!

Below is the first short video. (of the two) At about 1:08 min. I was scared to death because I looked one straight in the eye. And then I thought for a moment that they might be dangerous, too? Now I heard later that this is certainly the case when they have calves... Stupid actually but the screen between the animals and me gave me up to that moment a false sense of security, haha! (Tip: turn your sound down due to the clearly audible wind)

Here the animals are still moving for a while and I end with a panoramic round of 360 degrees. But I do turn fast because these 'buffalo' behind me is not a pleasant thought! ',0) (Think about your sound again)

A beautiful tree; I don't know the name...

All in all a Beautiful area where I want to go extensively hiking!
