Circle of Life
“Ed!”
Dreamy, I stare over the edge. The view is truly fantastic. I can lie here for hours.
“Ed!”
A group of bottlenose dolls playing in the sea. I play along in mind. The sun mirrored in the water. A colorful rainbow shows itself. Oh, what an ultimate pleasure. If only I could ever...
“Ed!”
I'm not trying to hear anything. The wind is fuelling. The images are shifting. I take a good look and yes, the Wadden are slowly coming into sight. I'm gonna put my glasses on. Am I seeing it right? Sunning seals on the sandplates. What a beautiful movie!
“Ed!”
I turn around sighing. “Hello, Ad. Nice weather, huh?”
With his hands in his side, he looks at me disgraceful. “Are you kidding me?”
I'm not saying anything.
“You're a hopeless case, you know that?”
I'm shrugging my shoulders. Of course I know. Nature doesn't stop you. When it's time, it's time. Only I prefer to decide it myself and I can't use a showout like Ad at all.
“We're about to jump.”
I nod.
“You better not be late. At least I'll make sure I have the best place.”
I see him running away, and I slowly sjock behind it. It's busy today.
The buzz is not from the sky. One is in a good mood.
“Whoever's down first!” I hear Ad calling.
There is a loud discussion right away.
“I'm going to win.”
“No me.”
“Oh, boy, you're as slow as a snail.”
“You should pay attention. I will splash past you!”
It just goes on. I keep my hands over my ears. I wish I was downstairs. I'm starting to fantasize right away. What would it be like to ride on the back of a dolphin? As long as I don't end up in the middle of the sea, I'm fine with everything. That's so boring. And you never know what happens to you after that. You can just get into nothing. I don't have to think about it. Quickly I'll stick my head between my knees and peek down. We're floating above land. Could it be Schiermonnikoog or maybe Ameland? I've never been there before.
“In your places!” Sounds like it suddenly.
We brace ourselves. Now it's gonna happen. Nail-biting, I'm waiting. From my corner of my eye, I can see Ad jumping. “Geronimo!”
He is immediately followed by thousands of others. Like a dark gray rain cover, they fall down. I look at them thoughtfully.
All of a sudden, the “ground “disappears under my feet. There I go. In a free fall, spinning through the air. The tension of the moment is gone. Now I enjoy again and want to stretch the dream air as long as possible. I stretch all my limbs and try not to bump into the others in the meantime. After the last cloud, I see in front of me the big blue. That was not the intention. I wanted to go to Ameland...
I'm looking back. Ad has the leadership firmly in his hands and directs straight on the island. But I think I can, too. I make myself as small as possible and dive straight down. Left and right, I catch up with the competition. Occasionally, I use my elbows to wrestle me through the masses. Between the drops, I see where to go. I give a little extra gas and try to create as little air resistance as possible.
About a hundred meters above the ground, I buzzed past Ad. During the overtaking, I quickly stick out my tongue. I float over the beach, the dunes, the moor.
Just a little more.
I'm making a perfect landing in a big poppy. What a reception! And I just got first; it's worth a round of applause.
In peace I seek my way in the chalice and finally settle between the petals. Dreamy, I stare up in delight. The view is truly fantastic. I can lie here for hours.
After rain comes sunshine. She will eventually come for me, and then I will make my journey in the opposite direction, but not yet. Now I can enjoy a little more.
