Emerald dragonfly
The #smaragdlibel (Cordulia aenea) is a #voorjaarslibel , which you can find from the end of April to June. The emerald dragonfly is a species of dragonflies in the family Pteropsis. #glanslibellen . They live in stagnant, often bog waters and can be numerous in low peat areas.
After 2 to 3 years of living underwater, the larva of the emerald dragonfly is fully grown and creeps out of the water via water and river plants. When the larva skin erupts, the dragonfly creeps out. This is what we call sneaking out a dragonfly. After they are pumped up and dried, the dragonflies fly away from the water to become sexually mature in sheltered areas with many insects. Only after a week or two they return to the water to reproduce.
I took a walk in the Deelen , north of the Frisian Heerenveen, where I found them in large numbers on the leaves of trees.
