The manta guajira, the traditional women's dress, is very typical for its colour; it reaches the floor and its designs show great artistic skill.
La Guajira (in wayuunaiki: Wajiira) is one of the thirty-two departments that, together with Bogotá, the Capital District, form the Republic of Colombia. Its capital is Riohacha. It is located in the northeast end of the country, in the Caribbean region, bordering on the north and east with the Caribbean Sea (Atlantic Ocean), to the southeast by Venezuela, to the south by the department of Cesar and to the west by that of Magdalena.
La Guajira comes from the peninsula of the same name, which covers one third of the territory of that department and the far north of the Venezuelan State of Zulia.
