Pauline von Borghese route
The Pauline von Borghese route is a 12 km walking route through Würselen and Herzogenrath. Both are cities in the Aachen City Region and are near the Dutch border.
The start and end point of the route is the obelisk that is placed here in memory of Napoleon's favorite sister, Maria Paola. After her second marriage, she went through life as Pauline -Vorstin of Borghese-. At the beginning of the nineteenth century she liked to stay in Aachen with her and Napoleon's mother and was a sign of thanks for their hospitality. Pauline was mainly concerned with the pleasures of life. Napoleon had four brothers and three sisters. Pauline was the only one who remained loyal to him until his exile to Elba. The area around the obelisk was the favorite hiking and horseback riding area of mother and sister when they were in cure in Aachen. The forest where you walk through and past during the walking route is also called the Paulinenwäldchen.
If you come to the starting point by car, you can park it behind the obelisk. Please pay attention to the description of the route.
