Rainbow lantern crafting
November 11 is the day that my light, that my light.
Sint Maarten is celebrated in many places in the Netherlands. So the tradition of this can not be found everywhere. According to Saint Martin Wikipedia - Quote:
The tradition does not seem to live equally strongly in every region; in Limburg , North Holland in West Friesland and Groningen became in 1997 established that in these provinces, the Saint Martin celebration was still quite current. In the provinces Friesland , Drenthe and Noord-Brabant an increase in celebrations appeared to have been observed. To a lesser extent, Saint Martin is celebrated in South Holland and Zeeland and in parts of Overijssel , Flevoland and Gelderland .
In Drenthe, where I live, this is a real tradition. Children work at their lanterns at school and in daycare. This sometimes happens with a theme: animals, TV characters, various color combinations. The lantern is often something that is started fairly on time, after all, it takes a few hours of work depending on the type of lantern.
Children are only a little proud when this lantern is ready. At many schools, they have a Lampion walk-in so that all lanterns are exhibited in the evening for parents and those who want can come and see. And on November 11, the children themselves go by the doors with their homemade lantern on a light stick. There are also joint parades held in some places, which of course looks spectacular with all those beautiful illuminated lanterns! And of course, the children are also spoiled with a treat { snoep, mandarijntjes etc} wat ze bij de deuren van mensen mogen ontvangen.
