The ongoing rain showers have now caused a layer of water in the street of at least thirty centimetres, the sewers are not processed anymore. And when I look at the sky, it's clear to me: there's much more to come. That would not have to be so bad, but by now the water level rises considerably indoors, the rug seems to be spoiled forever and the papers on it (I think even a phone bill, I'm apparently a bit sloppy in those things than I always thought) float. as drowned boats. The only advantage of all that water seems to be that I'm probably rid of quite a few mice, or can these animals swim anyway?

The cellar is now full of water and that is not best for the kitchen towels stored there. The personal problem is a little bigger, the food supply stored in the basement is spoiled and unreachable. Yet a man wants something to eat, doesn't he?

Last night all that water had an unexpected, in a sense also splashing, effect. I woke up with a loud crackling sound, accompanied by ghostly blue flashes. Then it got dark. I don't know if you recognize this, but it was so dark I couldn't see a hand in front of my eyes. On the touch I looked for the light switch, but that had no effect. It was clear to me: the power grid had given up the battle against the water, the power had gone out. Carefully I went down the stairs to the kitchen. It was a bit scary: the water in the hallway wouldn't be powered, would it? It was clear to me that a paracetamol tablet would no longer be able to help me if it did.

Luckily that was all too bad, I'm still here. Now that it is morning again, I decide to make a much-needed inventory of the food supply. A can of ready-made meatballs is on the kitchen counter, I have another jar of hazelnut paste and a bunch of eggs, fortunately already cooked yesterday, because without power you can't do anything with an induction hob. Hopefully those eggs are hard enough, because I don't like the liquid egg yolk, I hate that. Of course this is not a lot of stock, so I have to think of a way to go to the store safely and preferably as dry as possible.

As always, when the need is high, salvation is near. My eye catches a large amount of empty plastic packaging that I had set up to throw away at the mall in the orange plastic collector boxes. All different things, from detergent, fabric softener, shampoo, that kind of thing. This month I will also invent terrace cleaner, because these packaging is the most practical because of its size. Convenient when I am I craft a mini-raft, with which I paddle my neighbours through the water without wet feet and with great pleasure, on my way to the store. So, that is solved again!
