#quarantine

A term that comes from Italy is quarantine. Quarantine was introduced at the outbreak of the plague. All ships calling the Italian ports were obliged to stay in the port for 40 days. Nor was the crew allowed to leave the ship. The aim was to prevent the plague from spreading in Italy.

Isolation

Quarantine is no more and no less than keeping human or animal separate. Isolate, as it were, of a person or animal from the other people. The isolation was then for a fixed period and then the crew or animal were allowed to return the ship. After this period of forty days living in isolation, it was thought that the risk of contamination of humans or animals on land by the crew and animals would be over.
