What Happens To Your Body When You Are Hungry?
Although the body has reserves, death can come from heart failure and brain collapse
This is the case of hunger strikes, which have historically been conceived as a non-violent protest tool. It basically consists of voluntarily giving up the consumption of any type of food, in the midst of the public manifestation of said decision.
Although hunger strikes have always been known, their history dates back to ancient Egypt, to the exact year 1166 BC. C., during the reign of Ramses II, when the workers who built the pyramids stopped eating, apparently as a protest to demand better wages and working conditions. The story goes that after tough negotiations, these men's demands were recognized and they abandoned the strike.
Already in the 18th century, during the Industrial Revolution in the United Kingdom, several episodes arose due to the same circumstances. In the last century, the most famous hunger strike was that of Mahatma Gandhi, as a protest against British colonialism; a fact that, by the way, became a symbol in favor of the independence of India.
