This object has been a mystery to me for years. I got it years ago from someone who knew I loved old things. It had been with him for many years in the family and was already used by his grandfather to scrape his shoes. It would have found it in the ground on the land near here (Blajel, Romania). Pretty stories are often spun around objects, but I do believe that it is already quite old or maybe partly very old.
Which brings me to the following:
I have the impression that these are two different objects of which one was later made of.
The piece is 21 cm long and the iron part is 1/2 cm thick and runs narrow on both sides and the front.
The handle seems to be made of bronze and has a head on both sides with an animal with horns (ox?) and two different images can be seen on the handle. The side in the picture reminds of a hunting scene with on the right a dog chasing after an animal on the left.
On the far right you can see the nail that holds the iron part in the bronze part.
The side of the handle looks raw. At the top of the handle are two holes on the side of the picture. Through the bottom round hole, which is only on one side, you can see a piece of the iron part. The top hole is oval and there's a similar hole on the other side. On top of real there is also an oval hole.
On the iron part there is something that I initially saw as a damage but when enlarged it looks a lot like a mark.
The question of what it is or what it might have originally been keeps me busy.
